Board production
After putting into operation in 1968-1972 kraftliner & fluting factory
and corrugated board workshop Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill became the
largest manufacturer of this kind of product in the USSR and later on in
Russia. Nowadays the container board production volume is more than 400
thousand tons of container board and 300 million square meters of
corrugated board products together with Murmansk container factory and
Podolsk branch of JSC "ARKHBUM".
The basis of the board production is cooking production, which produces
up to 420 thousand tons of unbleached sulphate pulp and neutral-sulfite
semipulp. These semi-finished products are used for production of
kraftliner on PPM-1 ("Valmet") and fluting on PPM-2 (" Izhevsk factory of
heavy papermaking equipment").
In 2001-2002 a large-scale modernization of the whole board production
was carried out. Soda-recovery boilers, evaporator systems, both
papermaking machines have undergone the reconstruction, new equipment for
pulp washing of "Chemi-Washer" type has been installed.
As a result of PPM-1 reconstruction the board production at APPM has
increased and at the same time both the quality and the environmental
safety have improved.
The reconstruction cost is more than $ 20 million. The first in Russia
shoe-press ("Voith") and a new calender of the same manufacture, a
controlled-velocity electric drive ("ABB") have been installed on the
machine. DC electric motors were changed. After this the working speed of
the machine has increased up to 600 m/min. A new screening system of the
base and top layer ("Andritz") has been installed on PPM-1.
The raw material for corrugated board is kraftliner (KLB) and fluting
(SCF) of domestic manufacture. The produced double-faced corrugated board
has very high specification and strength figures, which are provided by
100% pulp raw material. The corrugated board is manufactured on BHS
corrugator. The planned production capacity of the machine is 100 million
square meters per annum. Corrugated board containers are manufactured on
French equipment ("Marius Martin"): transfer line and slotters. The
corrugated board production capacity is 60 million cubic meters per annum.
In November 2001 JSC "Arkhbum", an exclusive distributor of Arkhangelsk
Pulp and Paper Mill's products, started up a new corrugated board
production in Podolsk. About $ 37 million were invested into its
construction. Today it's the best factory in Russia and one of the best
ones in Europe. The facilities of the modern Swedish and German equipment
permit to produce 14-16 million square meters of corrugated board products
per month. The starting of Podolsk branch of JSC "Arkhbum" is the first
step in the realization of the long-term strategy of "Titan" Group of
enterprises on the path to winning 30-35% share of the Russian corrugated
board market. To "Titan" Group belong JSC "Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper
Mill", JSC "Arkhbum", Murmansk container factory and other producers. The
next step will be starting up similar productions in other regions of
Russia.
