The Union of Timber Merchants highly evaluated the activity of APPM

On March, 24 2009 the Federal Forest Agency of the RF jointly with the Union of Timber Merchants and Timber Exporters of Russia held a large meeting and summarized the results of the forest complex in 2008. The participants of the meeting discussed the situation of the first months of the current year, analyzed effectiveness of measures on increase of stability in the period of the world financial crisis.  The representatives of the President Administration of the RF, Government of the RF, Ministry of Industry and Trade of the RF, Ministry of Economic Development of the RF, Ministry of Agriculture of  the RF, the Union of Federation and the State Duma of the RF.

According to the GR-Director of Arkhangelsk PPM who took part in the meeting, the situation in the forest complex has become much worse in January, February of 2008 because of demand downturn and fall in prices on pulp-and-paper goods both on the domestic and foreign markets. In January-February the pulp production in the country reduced by 30,8% or up to 287 thsd. t. if compared to the similar period of 2007, paper output declined by 15,3% up to 576 thsd. t., cardboard - by 25,8% up to 438 thsd. t.  

In the crisis, many pulp and paper enterprises suffer from lack of current assets and need state support. Nevertheless, the President of the Union of Timber Merchants and Timber Exporters highly appraised the actions of the top-management of Arkhangelsk PPM in the crisis period. He underlined that the sound marketing policy pf the Company helped to support utilization of production capacities on a high level and expand the output of some finished goods and sales.

The Union of Timber Merchants and Timber exporters proposed the participants of the meeting to study the arrangements, which are necessary to be taken by the state authorities to reduce negative impact of the economic crisis on the forest complex.
