“Arkhangelsk PPM”, JSC, “Saw Mill 25», CJSC and CG “Titan” support the establishment of reserve forest on the watershed between the Northern Dvina and Pinega rivers


 “Arkhangelsk PPM”, JSC, “Saw Mill 25” and GC “Titan” as environmentally responsible timber companies of Pomorie, support the establishment of a forest reserve on the watershed between the Northern Dvina and Pinega rivers within the boundaries agreed with international environmental organizations.
As Mr. Yury Trubin, a Director for Forestry and Interaction with the Authorities of the "Titan"  holding, told on the initiative of these three FSC-certified companies, a working meeting was held with the leaders and specialists of the forest programs of WWF Russia and Greenpeace Russia. Mr. Roman Verin, HBD of NEPCon, attended on the meeting as an observer. The participants of the working meeting were greeted by Andrey Ptichnikov, Executive Director of the Russian National Office of the FSC.
According to Mr. Yuri Trubin, this meeting was the next stage in the development of concerted joint actions to conduct ecologically, economically and socially responsible forest management in the Arkhangelsk region.
"During the meeting, it was noted that Arkhangelsk PPM, “Saw Mill 25", CJSC and GC "Titan" are ecologically and socially responsible forest users, who are systematically working to conserve forests with high conservation value," - said Mr.Trubin. - We support the establishment of protected areas on the watershed between the Northern Dvina and Pinega rivers in the borders modified but agreed by all the participants of the meeting."
Considering the high social and economic importance of these forests for the Arkhangelsk region, the participants of the working meeting recognized the necessity  of the proposed protected areas boundaries change and expressed their readiness to work together to identify the most valuable parts of IFL for protected areas establishment. 
Mr. Alexey Kudryavtsev, CEO of the GC "Titan", noted that the issue of protected areas establishment on the watershed between the Northern Dvina and Pinega rivers has been discussed for a long time. "We, as a certified company, clearly understand the value of IFL and advocate for giving the official status to this category of forests that guarantees their safety," - noted CEO.  – “We need to find a solution that balances the environmental and economic interests, while not forgetting about the interests of the inhabitants of the Arkhangelsk region, and to find a consensus on the new boundaries of the proposed reserve to save the most valuable parts of the area.”
The timber companies expressed their willingness to defray the part of the costs to perform a new state expert examination of protected areas within the changed borders.
The results of the working meeting on December 21, 2016 on issues of IFS (Intact Forest Landscapes) with the participation of representatives of GREENPEACE and WWF organizations.
